Constipation is currently one of the most common health problem. Constipation is so common these days that many people consider it normal. Constipation is the number one concern for gastrointestinal disorders. Woman experiences constipation more often than men. Pregnant women are often typically constipated due to pressure on their intestines. The aged are even more constipated.

Constipation is an illness similar to that described in Ayurveda resembling VIbandha. In Ayurveda, a large Vata dosha is thought to induce constipation. Vata is defined by a drying effect feature of air. If you are mainly Vata, you are likely to be constipated. An imbalanced Vata dries out the system and hampers the flow of waste. Many Vata are routinely involved in constipation.

Cause of Constipation

In Ayurveda, Vata imbalance constipation is one of the telltale signs. If the colon is excessively dry, it cannot do the same. This leads to bloating, constipation and/or gas. When constipation occurs, it is because the body is dehydrated and is reabsorbing the water contained in your stool back into the body.

Once food is digested, the body consumes water and nutrients that create wastes. The resulting stool naturally moves through the intestines. However, if the colon’s muscle contractions are sluggish the stool becomes hard, dry and difficult to pass.

Hours spent inactive at the computer and poor eating habits are generally the root of this distressing situation. Constipation is often caused by not paying attention to the call of nature in time. A sedentary lifestyle, irregular eating habits, an incorrect diet, a disturbed and worried mind, and drinking too much tea or coffee add up to an already sluggish digestion, further causing chronic constipation. #1 Water (Drink Lots of It)

Your body uses water to move the nutrients required into the places in your body and also removes waste from your body. Water has zero calories. Drinking plenty of water will naturally reduce the amount of food that you think you have to eat.

  • 8 Glasses of water per day should be a good start.
  • When you wake up, the first thing in the morning as you can take a glass of mildly hot water with lemon and honey.
  • Drink 2 glasses of water before you consume Tea or Coffee to replace the lost fluid. Same goes for some medicines and herbs.

  • Create a program of enjoyable exercise that the whole family can indulge in. For example walking around the park, house cleaning etc.
  • Domestic chores, like washing, gardening, vacuums and other tasks.

Ayurvedic theory advises us to choose foods that are oily, moist and smooth. To rebalance our Vata, encourage our body to treat itself naturally. Eat in an 8 relaxed atmosphere at regular times. Both nuts and seeds are also best used as kinds of food or oil for Vata. Ten almonds are an excellent early morning snack, which have been absorbed by water. Sesame oil is warming for Vata, yet all oils are acceptable.

Avoid beverages high in caffeine, like soda and coffee, which cause dehydration. Drink plenty of water, not refrigerated ideally at room temperature.
